Rescue Award
The Salina animal control officer whose heroic rescue of a dog from icy water in Indian Rock Park garnered national attention last winter will be in the limelight again today. The Kansas Animal Control Association will give Jane Trostle the Award of Valor today at its annual convention in Manhattan.

Dogs on Display - Wheatland show a popular venue
Charlie Brown was perched on his owner/handler Fred Brown’s shoulder Saturday, looking over competition of every breed, size, shape and temperament. The pair from Wamego were preparing for another trip into the show ring at the Salina Bicentennial Center on Saturday at the Wichita Kennel Club All Breed Dog Show, part of the Wheatland Cluster Dog Show that runs through today.

Dog show attracts large crowd
Although he’s been judging dogs for 33 years, Roger Hartinger currently doesn’t own a dog of his own. “We’re never home anymore, so we no longer have dogs,” he said. “I have to depend on my children’s dogs.”
