The Central Kansas Extension District plans a wheat plot tour in Saline County on May 23.

The first visit will be at 8:30 a.m. at the Mark and Brent Laas farm, two miles east of Brookville at Kansas Highway 140 and Reese Road. The plots contain 17 wheat varieties.

The second visit will be 11 a.m. at the Vaughn Isaacson farm, a quarter-mile east of Interstate Highway 135 on Mentor Road. The plot contains 17 varieties and a foliar fungicide demonstration.

A complimentary meal follows at Mentor Fire Station, courtesy of Phillips Seed Farms.

Kansas State University Extension agronomists Stu Duncan and Jim Shroyer will discuss varieties in the plots. Extension plant pathologist Erick DeWolf will discuss wheat diseases in the 2008 wheat crop and disease ratings for varieties.
